We are a humanitarian aid organisation committed to improving the oral health and well-being of poor communities in Africa.
Oral Health Advocacy Initiative (OHAI) is a non-Governmental Agency that seeks to create public consciousness about health that results in comprehensive health care delivery in Nigeria and Africa through Advocacy, partnership building, community mobilization, health education, consultancy services and strategic intervention. We have participatory partnership with various states in Nigeria and Africa which has enabled us to bring different medical services to the very grass root in 34 states and the FCT in Nigeria and over 5 African countries in the past 12 years, of which more than 11,200 people are beneficiaries of our very specialized corrective cleft lip reconstructive surgery. Several other thousands have benefited from our other strategic health intervention programs mostly to underserved communities.
It is interesting to know that health challenges/diseases in most states in Nigeria and Africa have not been aggressively addressed and new cases are emanating, making it more difficult to manage by many stakeholders in health intervention projects. Despite the concerted efforts of international non-governmental organizations and development partners, who allocate substantial health intervention funds annually to combat various illnesses and diseases in Africa, and specifically in Nigeria, the anticipated improvements in health outcomes have yet to be achieved.
The 21st century is marked by rapid advancements and a demand for accelerated progress in every sector, including health. This "century of speed" necessitates universal health coverage and robust health security to ensure a healthy populace and workforce, particularly in regions facing significant challenges. Recognizing this, the Oral Health Advocacy Initiative (OHAI) is committed to leveraging its expertise to tackle critical health issues that hinder progress in Nigeria and other African countries. With a focus on addressing the unique health needs of the most vulnerable populations, especially women and children, OHAI aims to bridge gaps in health care delivery, advocate for effective policies, and drive strategic interventions to enhance access and equity in health services across the continent.

We create a better tomorrow
To promote comprehensive health and well-being across Nigeria and Africa through training, advocacy, strategic interventions, and sustainable support systems, fostering healthier and more resilient populations.
Oral Health Advocacy Initiative (OHAI) shall seek to create public consciousness about health that results in comprehensive health care delivery in Nigeria and Africa through Advocacy, partnership building, community mobilization, health education, consultancy services and strategic intervention.
To drive systemic change fostering equity, and ensuring that vulnerable populations receive essential care, ultimately improving health outcomes and advancing societal well-being, OHAI carries out advocacy activities engaging stakeholders, educating communities, and influencing decision-makers.
We focus on empowering local medical professionals and caregivers by providing comprehensive training programs aimed at strengthening the healthcare system. Our efforts are directed toward enhancing the skills and capacity of surgical teams, equipping them with advanced techniques, and improving their ability to deliver high-quality care. Additionally, we work closely with support services in local hospitals, ensuring they are well-prepared to complement surgical teams effectively. Through this collaborative approach, we help build a more robust and sustainable healthcare infrastructure, enabling communities to access better medical services and achieve improved health outcomes.
OHAI undertakes a range of support activities aimed at strengthening healthcare systems and improving community health outcomes. These include logistical support services to streamline operations, the provision of essential materials such as medical equipment, medications, and protective gear to healthcare facilities, and the distribution of relief packages to underserved populations. Additionally, OHAI focuses on capacity-building initiatives, such as training healthcare workers and improving healthcare infrastructure, ensuring sustainable and effective responses to critical community health needs.
OHAI programming is geared towards addressing critical health challenges through targeted programs and partnerships. These activities include implementing disease prevention campaigns, providing essential medical supplies, and strengthening healthcare systems through training and capacity-building. These also include delivering life-saving surgical interventions to underserved populations, addressing critical medical needs. The NGO collaborates with local and global stakeholders to improve healthcare access, advocate for policy reforms, and promote health education. By combining surgical care with capacity-building through collaborative efforts, these interventions create sustainable solutions to enhance health outcomes in vulnerable communities.
